When Elon Musk’s young son, X Æ A-12, interrupted his father at a White House press conference with Donald Trump, it caused quite a stir.
The four-year-old, known as X, was full of energy, pulling faces, climbing all over his dad, and even seemingly wiping his nose on the Resolute desk during the important Oval Office meeting. He quickly became the center of attention.
The disruption happened just after Trump, now 78, signed an executive order that required federal agencies to align with the Department of Government Efficiency’s (DOGE) cost-cutting measures. This followed a series of questions from reporters, while the 53-year-old Tesla CEO, Musk, tried to maintain focus.
As if the whole bogey incident wasn’t enough, X went a step further by seemingly shooing someone off-camera and telling them to “shut your mouth.”
In addition to sticking his fingers in his father’s ears, X one of the three children Musk shares with his ex-girlfriend Grimes also managed to make reporters chuckle.
“I thought my son might enjoy this, but he’s sticking his fingers in my ears and stuff,” Musk pointed out, turning to the toddler with a smile, adding, “So it’s been hard to hear sometimes.”
“Hey! Stop that.”
While Musk was speaking about DOGE’s mission to ‘restore democracy,’ X playfully mimicked his father’s gestures, leading Musk to apologize to the reporters: “I tell you, gravitas can be difficult sometimes.”
The incident didn’t sit well with some viewers, many of whom took to social media to criticize Musk’s actions. One Twitter user wrote: “America is a joke. Bringing a child to work during conferences is unprofessional, especially if the child is speaking while you’re being interviewed.”
Another user added: “How unprofessional with all the money Elon Musk has, surely he can afford a babysitter! How dare he bring his kid into the Oval Office in front of the world’s press. This is what we have come to.”
A third commenter expressed, “I’ll even donate some of my taxpayer money so Elon Musk can hire a babysitter.”
Grimes, whose real name is Claire Boucher, responded to Musk’s decision to bring their son to a press conference.
She took to Twitter to share her thoughts: “He shouldn’t be in public like this. I didn’t see it, but thanks for letting me know. At least he was polite. Sigh.”
