A man who miraculously survived being cut in half by a forklift has shared how he manages to cover his massive medical bills.
Loren Schauers was just 18 when a devastating workplace accident changed his life forever.
On September 27, 2019, the Montana laborer was operating a forklift when it accidentally veered off a bridge, plunging 50 feet to the ground. Trapped beneath the vehicle, Loren suffered catastrophic injuries.
Everything below his hips was crushed beyond repair, leading to a full amputation of his lower body and part of his right arm.
After a successful amputation, Loren and his wife, Sabia Reiche, launched a YouTube channel called Sabia and Loren, where they share health updates and insights into their daily lives.
In a recent video, Sabia answered questions from their community, including one from a viewer who asked: “I know you don’t discuss money, but we always hear how insanely expensive medical care is in the US. I’d imagine Loren’s treatment costs run into the millions.”
The viewer continued: “I just want to know if you guys are doing okay with that or if you need any help? I know you never ask for money, but there are many of us who would love to support you in that way.”
In response, Loren reassured them, saying: “Luckily, all my medical bills and expenses are covered through workers’ compensation, so it’s not a financial burden on us.”
Sabia chimed in, saying: “Yeah, because of that, we don’t need any help with medical expenses.”
In a previous video, Loren reflected on the day of his accident, explaining: “Since my supervisor liked me, he asked me to do pretty much anything he needed done.”
“So, my boss asked me to grab the forklift, drive it across, and move the water barrier back into position. The problem was, I had never been trained to operate a forklift.”
Years later, Loren has adapted to his new way of life, sharing: “I stream on Twitch as much as I can, whenever I’m able to sit up.”
“But other than that, I mostly just stay in bed. Streaming gives me something to focus on, so I try to do it whenever possible.”
Loren continued: “Whenever I’m sitting up, we’re either filming YouTube videos or I’m streaming on Twitch.”
In the comments section, viewers expressed their admiration for his resilience and positive attitude.
One person wrote: “He may be physically half the man I am, but emotionally and mentally, I am half the man he is. I wish I had his motivation and outlook on life. You rock, my dude!”
Another added: “I’m a 73-year-old man, and I have nothing but admiration and respect for these two young people.”
