In his memoir, Pageboy, Page candidly explores the challenges of grappling with his identity, including the deep shame he carried for years. He wrote, “Shame was embedded in me from my earliest days, and I fought to purge my body of that corrosive, toxic weight.”
Among the memories detailed in the book is his first time kissing a girl, a moment that left a lasting mark. At 20, he met Paula, recalling her warmth: “Sitting on a friend’s couch, munching raw almonds with her knees tucked up, she said, ‘I’m Paula.’ Her voice carried kindness, her eyes truly saw you.” He added, “We went to Reflections, my first gay bar, and my last for a long time.”
