Greta Thunberg was recently detained by Israeli forces after the Freedom Flotilla Coalition aid boat she was aboard was intercepted in international waters en route to Gaza. In a video message, Thunberg described the event as a “kidnapping,” sparking global attention.
Israel confirmed the interception, citing its naval blockade of Gaza, and stated that the passengers were safe and given food and water. Among those on board were journalists, activists, and even a member of the EU Parliament. All are now set to be deported.
Asked about Thunberg’s claim, Donald Trump didn’t hold back. He labeled her “a young, angry person” and brushed off the incident, saying, “Israel has enough problems without kidnapping her.” He also mocked her activism, suggesting she needs “anger management.”
The situation has reignited tensions, as Thunberg and others accuse Israel of blocking humanitarian aid and committing “genocide,” claims Israeli authorities reject. They called the intercepted vessel a “selfie yacht” and dismissed the protest as a publicity stunt.
With over 54,000 reported dead in the ongoing Gaza conflict, the global response to the flotilla’s detention continues to escalate, drawing sharp political reactions, and few as blunt as Trump’s.
