David Hekili Kenui Bell, beloved for his role in the 2025 live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch, has sadly passed away at the age of 46, just weeks after the film’s release.
Fans of the Disney remake were heartbroken to learn of his sudden passing, taking to social media to express their grief and celebrate his memorable performance.
“I just watched Lilo & Stitch, I loved his part. What tragic news. RIP,” one fan shared, while another wrote, “He made us laugh so hard. My daughter and I loved him on opening night.”
David’s sister, Jalene, confirmed the devastating news on Facebook, writing, “It is with a heavy heart I share that my sweet, generous, talented, funny, brilliant, and handsome little brother David H. K. Bell will spend today in the company of our Heavenly Father.”
She added that Bell was deeply passionate about acting and thrilled to be part of such an iconic film. “He planned ahead and bought the best seats in the house so we could all enjoy the premiere together,” she said.
David’s role as the Shave Ice Man in Lilo & Stitch quickly became a fan favorite, with his scenes going viral for their humor and charm. He also had credits in Magnum P.I., Hawaii Five-0, and the upcoming film The Wrecking Crew.
In addition to acting, Bell was known locally for his voice-over work, including announcements at Kona Airport, where he helped create a safe and welcoming experience for travelers.
“He was and will remain a bright and shining star,” his sister said.
Bell’s agent told People, “This is heartbreaking. He was one of my best talents and truly embodied the spirit of aloha… a gentle giant.”
Hawaii police confirmed Bell’s passing on June 12 at 2:26 p.m. A coroner’s inquest is underway, with no foul play suspected. An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the cause of death.
