Three-year-old Scarlett Jensen’s life was tragically cut short in a hit-and-run accident on October 7, 2022. She and her two-year-old brother, Henry, were with their grandmother in Oldtown, Idaho, when a speeding Chevy Tahoe barreled down their driveway. Despite their grandmother’s desperate attempts to stop the vehicle and protect them, both children were struck.
“My mom was waving and yelling for him to stop. She tried to grab my kids, but he was going too fast,” recalled their devastated mother, Samantha Jensen. “Scarlett died almost immediately, and my mom and Henry were badly hurt.”
The driver fled the scene, leaving behind a shattered family. Authorities later apprehended him, and he was sentenced to ten years in prison.
Injuries That Changed Their Lives
Henry suffered a broken spine and ribs, while his grandmother endured multiple fractures.
“Henry was in the ICU for a week before he was strong enough to come home,” Samantha shared. “Every moment felt endless.”
Amid the heartbreak, Samantha found a small yet powerful source of comfort, a photograph taken just before the accident.
A Precious Last Memory
While going through her mother’s photos from that day, Samantha discovered one final picture of Scarlett, capturing her in a moment of joy and peace.
“I’m so grateful to have that photo,” she said. “It shows her last moments as peaceful. In that picture, she was safe, happy, and loved. That’s how I want to remember her.”
