Caitlyn Jenner’s Response to Trump’s Transgender Policy Surprises Many. In the past, Caitlyn Jenner has been outspoken against Donald Trump’s policies, particularly regarding LGBTQ+ rights. However, her reaction to his latest executive order on transgender athletes marks a significant shift from her previous stance.
Since beginning his second term, Trump has signed numerous executive orders, including the withdrawal from the Paris Agreement and the World Health Organization, imposing 25 percent import tariffs on Canada and Mexico, and reviewing military readiness. Among his latest actions, he signed an order officially recognizing only two genders, male and female, under U.S. law and revoking The Equal Employment Opportunity Act.
The most controversial of these orders bans transgender athletes from competing in women’s sports and threatens to cut federal funding for schools that allow trans women to participate in female sports categories.
Describing the move as part of a broader effort to “reclaim our culture and our laws,” Trump stated, “Any school that lets men take over women’s sports teams or invade your locker rooms will be investigated. There will be no federal funding. From now on, women’s sports will be only for women. The war on women’s sports is over.”
The order was signed at the White House in the presence of female athletes.
Jenner, an Olympic gold medalist and a transgender woman, took to social media to express her support for Trump’s decision.
“Another victory in the fight for protecting women’s sports! President Trump signs an Executive Order keeping biological men out of women’s sports!” she wrote.
“As an Olympian, I will continue to fight this issue, lobbying sports governing bodies all over the world to follow our lead!”
Her support surprised many, given her past criticisms of Trump. In 2018, Jenner wrote a column for The Washington Post expressing regret for initially backing him, accusing him of using the transgender community as “political pawns.”
In 2017, when Trump reversed federal guidance allowing transgender students to use school bathrooms aligning with their gender identity, Jenner called it “very disappointing” in an interview with the BBC but said it didn’t yet make her regret voting for him.
Her latest stance marks a stark contrast to her previous views, sparking debate among supporters and critics alike.
