While many homes occasionally host a variety of insects, some pests, like earwigs, are less welcome than others. In rural areas, common pests such as flies, ants, and spiders are familiar during the warmer months.
For some, insects are a minor inconvenience, but for others, the presence of bugs can be unbearable. While spiders and flies might be easy to tolerate, earwigs often provoke a stronger reaction.

Are Earwigs Harmful?
You’ve probably encountered an earwig without realizing it. Despite their intimidating appearance, earwigs are harmless. However, seeing a large number in your home can be unsettling.
How to Get Rid of Earwigs
A Facebook user, Alicia Alexander, shared a simple and effective method to eliminate earwigs. By placing a shallow bowl filled with half a cup of olive oil in your yard or on your deck, you can trap these insects. They are drawn to the oil, but once inside, they can’t escape.

Alicia’s method proved to be highly successful, as she collected a significant number of earwigs in her bowl after just 24 and 36 hours.
What Causes Earwigs in Your Home?
While earwigs are generally harmless, an increased presence inside your home could indicate underlying issues, such as rotting wood. Earwigs are attracted to decaying wood, so it’s a good idea to check for and address any wood rot. It’s also common for earwigs to enter your home in search of warmth, and this is usually nothing to worry about.
