In a surreal, unfiltered monologue that feels straight out of a Mike White fever dream (see also: Chuck & Buck (2000)), Frank recalls hiring transgender sex workers and, in his words, “getting as close to the experience as possible.” It’s an oddly moving confession, delivered in a long take as Rick listens with a cocktail of emotions, fascination, discomfort, admiration, and sheer bewilderment. There’s a strong “men will do anything but go to therapy” energy to it all, yet Rockwell’s performance makes it feel both absurd and deeply human.
Bonus 2: Harper and Cameron (S2, Ep6)
Ethan (Will Sharpe) has spent his life being tormented by guys like Cameron (Theo James), and now he’s convinced that Cameron has done what he always feared, taken what’s his. Fueled by jealousy, paranoia, and simmering resentment, Ethan envisions Harper (Aubrey Plaza) and Cameron together. The scene itself is never confirmed as reality, but the way it’s shot, intense, provocative, and dripping with tension, makes it one of the most memorable moments in the season. If Ethan ever wants to pivot to writing White Lotus fanfiction, we’d absolutely read it.
Bonus 1: Daphne and Ethan (S2, Ep7)
Few moments in The White Lotus sparked as much debate as Daphne (Meghann Fahy) and Ethan’s mysterious island excursion.
