Theologian Jared Brock has challenged traditional views on the Devil and Hell, suggesting that sinners may not experience eternal torment as commonly believed.
Brock, who has spent years studying religious afterlife concepts and authored the book A Devil Named Lucifer, has come to a different understanding of scripture. After thoroughly analyzing various Bible passages, he questions popular perceptions about Hell.
One of the main misconceptions, according to Brock, is that the Devil breathes fire upon the souls entering his domain. However, in the final book of the New Testament, *Revelation*, there is no mention of fire. Instead, Revelation 12:15 states: “The serpent poured water like a river out of his mouth after the woman, to sweep her away with a flood.”
While Hell is referenced several times in the Bible, Brock points out that there are up to six different locations mentioned in the texts that could be considered part of the afterlife’s “underside.”
The traditional belief holds that those who don’t repent for their sins will be banished to Hell for eternity. However, Brock is uncertain about this interpretation, acknowledging that while he questions it, he cannot offer definitive answers.
Jared Brock also questioned the nature of Hell, pondering whether it is a physical place or simply a realm where the souls of sinners are sent.
In an interview with Mail Online, he said, “Are these physical? Are they spiritual? Are they forever? Are they for a limited period of time? And the answer to all of that is we just don’t know.”
Brock also challenged the traditional depiction of Satan, the red-skinned, horned demon with a pitchfork, goatee, and sometimes hooves. He explained that this image is not supported by scripture and believes it has evolved due to cultural influence.
“I think culture just got so obsessed with this idea of this little red devil on your shoulder haunting you at all times,” Brock remarked.
He emphasized that Satan is not a physical being like Jesus but a spiritual entity who can appear in alluring forms to tempt individuals into sin.
Brock explained, “There are two words in the Bible for the devil. One means ‘accuser’ and the other means ‘adversary.’ Nowhere does it say that the devil is omnipresent like God.”
According to Christian faith, Lucifer was banished from Heaven and cast into Hell with his demons.
The Book of Revelation 12:7-9 states: “And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought with the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought, but they did not prevail, nor was a place found for them in heaven any longer. So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.”
