Hailey Bieber opened up about her life with husband Justin Bieber and their son, Jack Blues, sharing that motherhood has brought its fair share of challenges.
In a Vogue cover interview published on May 20, Hailey, 28, described her postpartum experience as “the most sensitive time” she’s ever faced. She talked about how difficult it has been to find a new version of herself while dealing with constant rumors online about her marriage.
“Being postpartum is the most sensitive time I’ve ever gone through in my life, and learning a new version of myself is very difficult,” Hailey said. “And to be doing that all the while going on the internet every day and people being like, ‘They’re getting divorced and they’re this and they’re not happy’: It is such a mindf***. I cannot even begin to explain it. It’s a crazy life to live.”
Hailey and Justin, 31, who married in 2018, welcomed their son Jack Blues last August. Recently, rumors about a split swirled after speculation that they unfollowed each other on social media. However, both have denied those claims. Hailey responded directly on TikTok in March, calling the supposed unfollow a “glitch” and assuring fans she never unfollowed Justin.
Hailey shared that Justin’s experience as a former child star has helped her handle public scrutiny. “I’ve learned so much from Justin, really,” she said. “He’s been doing this literally since he was a child and he has had to face the most scrutiny of any person that I know. He was like, ‘Baby, trust me, I’ve been here before many, many times. You’re not going to win. There is no winning.’”
Aside from relationship rumors, Hailey has also been navigating the emotional and physical adjustments of motherhood. She talked candidly about accepting her changing body, reminding herself daily to be patient and kind to herself.
“Every day I have to talk to myself, like, ‘Hailey, you had a baby … You grew a human. You birthed a human. It’s OK. Give yourself grace. Give yourself time,’” she said. “When people talk about ‘bouncing back’ — back where, because my hips are wider, my boobs are actually bigger than they were before. They did not go back. And great, I’ll take it, but it’s not the same body that it was before.”
Hailey also revealed details about Jack’s birth, including a frightening postpartum hemorrhage. “Which was a little bit scary,” she told Vogue. “I trust my doctor with my life. And so I had peace that I knew she would never let anything happen to me. But I was bleeding really badly, and people die, and the thought crosses your mind.”
She described labor as the hardest thing she’s ever done. “That s*** was so crazy. That was not fun. They broke my water. I went into labor and I labored for a few hours. No epidural, nothing.”
Justin spoke highly of Hailey, saying, “I’ve done a lot of dumb things in my life, but the smartest thing I’ve ever done was marry Hailey.”
