Jennifer Lopez recently shared how she navigated telling her twins, Emme and Max, about her divorce from Ben Affleck, emphasizing the emotional and personal growth that followed.
In an interview with El País published on May 7, Lopez, 55, reflected on the challenging year she had, explaining how she turned to self-help books, meditation, and prayer to strengthen her relationship with God and solidify her family unit. Lopez shares her 17-year-old twins with ex-husband Marc Anthony.
When she filed for divorce from Affleck, 52, in August 2024, Lopez sat down with her children to explain the situation, assuring them that despite the hardship, they would come out stronger on the other side. “I promised them that, and I did it,” she said. “And they feel it now, which gives me peace in my life.”
Lopez also spoke about her dedication to improving her personal and family life through therapy, books on relationships, and self-reflection. She explained that while everyone faces challenges, it’s how you handle them that defines you. “It’s not the relationship, not the man: what defines you is what you’re doing with the experiences you’re faced with,” she said.
Proud of how she navigated the difficult times, Lopez shared that her children are stronger because of the experience. “I’m proud that I was able to navigate my children through difficult times,” she said, adding that she’s excited to return to the stage. “It’s a great time to go out there and dance and sing and have a good time with everybody.”
Lopez and Affleck’s divorce was finalized in February 2025, and the singer is now in a better headspace, eager to reconnect with her fans on tour. “I only want to go on tour when we’re going to celebrate,” she teased. “We’re going to have a good time.”
