A young law student who was initially misdiagnosed before learning he had terminal cancer is now using his platform to raise awareness about overlooked symptoms.
While studying at Edinburgh University, Graeme Porter began experiencing severe lower back pain, extreme fatigue, and rapid weight loss, losing four stone in just five weeks. Despite seeking medical advice, doctors initially dismissed his symptoms as growing pains, muscle strain, or even a urinary infection.
It wasn’t until months later that Porter was diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma, a rare and aggressive cancer. Reflecting on the delay, he acknowledged that while cancer may not be the first assumption in young patients, it should always be considered as a possibility.

Following 14 cycles of chemotherapy and six weeks of radiotherapy, Porter celebrated his remission in early 2024. However, just months later, in October 2024, doctors confirmed the cancer had spread to his lungs and was now incurable.
Determined to make the most of his time, Porter remains active on social media, encouraging others to take their symptoms seriously. A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help him fulfill his lifelong dream of visiting Australia.
Despite his diagnosis, Porter continues to inspire, using his story to emphasize the importance of early detection and self-advocacy in healthcare.
