Netflix viewers are reacting strongly to the new series Supersex, questioning the limits of mainstream entertainment.
Many have expressed feeling “sickened” by the graphic and explicit scenes, with some even threatening to cancel their subscriptions.
The series chronicles the life of Rocco Siffredi, a renowned Italian adult film star with an extensive career, having starred in over 1,300 adult films. Siffredi is portrayed by Italian actor Alessandro Borghi.
Supersex follows the life of Rocco, from his humble beginnings in Ortona, Italy, to becoming known as “the godfather of rough sex.” One of the most controversial scenes in the series depicts Rocco engaging in a sexual act with one of his mother’s friends at her funeral, which has sparked outrage among viewers.
The seven-episode series has drawn strong reactions, with many viewers sharing their discomfort.
One person wrote, “I watched Supersex, which was compelling and interesting, until midway through episode six. It was appalling, disrespectful, and uncalled for. I’m talking about the cemetery scene. Before this episode, I would have given it a thumbs up. So messed up.”
Another viewer commented, “Yes, I know, complaining about too many sex scenes in Supersex is like complaining about too many car races in Fast & Furious. But also, a few less, eh?”
The lead actor, Alessandro Borghi, shared that the series was “absolutely the most complicated thing I’ve ever made in my life,” revealing that he filmed 50 sex scenes in just 95 days, according to Italian news outlet Today.
Rocco Siffredi himself addressed the controversy surrounding the series.
When asked if viewers would be shocked, he said, “For sure. I never, ever like to tell you one part of me, I always say everything. You either like it or you don’t, this is who I am; I could never be who I am without showing everything about myself. The part shown on Netflix, which people don’t know, is the way I grew up, the way my life came up since I was a child. How did I grow up? What were the situations involved in my life? So this is the main Rocco, really, which people don’t know. Most people know me just in front of the camera, naked.”
Netflix rated Supersex for viewers aged 18 and over, but the explicit content still provoked strong reactions from those who felt it was inappropriate.
This is not the first time Netflix has pushed societal boundaries, with previous films like 365 Days and Money Shot: The P*rnhub Story also sparking similar controversies.
