Netflix Viewers ‘Shocked’ By Graphic and Inappropriate Scenes in Controversial Series

Netflix subscribers are threatening to cancel their memberships over a new TV drama currently streaming.

The series, based on the life of an adult film star, has sparked significant controversy among viewers due to its explicit content.

A clip from the show, which was shared and later removed from Netflix’s official Instagram account, has been met with a wave of negative reactions online.

One viewer expressed their outrage, saying, “Now we have explicit content on Netflix too? Canceling my account as we speak, my kids can’t watch this.”

Another viewer echoed similar concerns, asking, “Isn’t this inappropriate for a platform where kids follow you?”

A third person questioned the platform’s content decisions, writing, “Are we just making adult content mainstream now? It’s disturbing that there’s no warning for explicit scenes like this, yet women posting breastfeeding pictures get flagged. If Netflix wants to air this kind of content, it should be in a separate category.”

Another viewer shared their unease, stating, “I’m not sure I like the direction Netflix is heading.”

Someone else added, “It’s really sad that this is accepted in today’s culture. The hyper-sexualization of our society and generation is disheartening and undermines the value of both genders.”

The platform describes the show, inspired by true events, as “the story of how Rocco Siffredi rose from humble beginnings to become the world’s most famous adult film star.”

According to IMDb’s official synopsis, the series delves into “Siffredi’s family, his background, his relationships, and the circumstances that led him to pursue a career in pornography and come to terms with the fact that the ‘demon’ inside him can coexist with love.”

The seven-episode series, titled Supers**, stars Alessandro Borghi as Siffredi, who appeared in over 1,500 adult films.

Francesca Manieri, the filmmaker behind the series, explained to *The Independent*: “My aim was to make men confront themselves. This is what we call the phallocentric system, where the male organ is the focal point of thought above all else.”

She continued, “So, what can we do in 2024 to better understand the relationship between men and women? How can men face the image of their symbolic masculinity and attempt to deconstruct all of this?”

Despite the controversy surrounding the series, it has received some positive reviews from critics.

Rohan Naahar of the Indian Times writes, “Borghi is captivating, even when the show seems on the verge of going off-track. He brings a vulnerability to Siffredi, a character who could easily come across as loathsome.”

He adds, “It’s also beneficial that the character, at least the version of him portrayed in the show, often acknowledges his flaws. This self-awareness helps gain the audience’s empathy, as there’s nothing less appealing than a loose cannon oblivious to the damage they cause.”

Aramide Tinubu from Variety adds, “Supers** is not just a deep dive into one man’s life and career, but a look at the unconventional lives that people create when they choose to live authentically.”
