Prince Harry has revealed that he believes it is “impossible” for him and his family to return to the U.K. due to the government’s decision to remove his security protection.
In a recent statement, the Duke of Sussex explained that despite his desire to reconcile with the Royal Family, the lack of proper security makes it too dangerous for him, Meghan Markle, and their children, Archie and Lilibet, to visit. This follows his failed legal challenge against the Home Office’s decision, which had been upheld by the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (Ravec).
Since stepping down from his senior royal duties in 2020, Harry has relied on private security, but he argues that his team lacks access to vital U.K. intelligence to ensure his family’s safety. He expressed concern that the decision sets a dangerous precedent, not just for him, but potentially for other royal members, as it could be used to control family members by limiting their access to security.
Harry shared that he could only visit the U.K. if personally invited, and that the resolution to this issue lies with his father, King Charles III. He suggested that his father could allow security experts to handle the matter without interference, thus making it possible for him to return.
Despite the ongoing tensions, Prince Harry expressed a strong desire to reconcile with his family, particularly his father, saying, “I would love reconciliation with my family. Life is precious… it would be nice to reconcile.” However, he also shared his frustration, revealing that his attempts to reach out to King Charles have largely been ignored due to the security dispute.
In a vulnerable moment during the interview, Harry admitted his deepest fear: “I don’t see a world in which I would be bringing my wife and children back to the U.K. at this point.” He expressed sadness that Archie and Lilibet may never experience life in the country of their royal heritage.
