Animal cruelty is truly heartbreaking, and few cases illustrate this more than the tragic ordeal of Riona, a sweet and resilient pitbull mix who endured unimaginable pain. Last year, Riona’s owner set her on fire, leaving her severely burned and fighting for her life.
Now, nearly a year later, Riona’s story has taken a hopeful turn, she has finally found a loving forever home.
A Shocking Act of Cruelty
In June of last year, Riona was seen running through the streets of Nutbush, Tennessee, engulfed in flames. Witnesses were horrified as the air filled with the overpowering smell of gasoline, confirming that the fire had been deliberately set.
“All you could smell was gas,” recalled Mallory McLemore from Bluff City Veterinary Specialists, describing the shocking scene.
According to Ginger Natoli, founder of Tails of Hope Dog Rescue, Riona had been soaked in diesel fuel before being set on fire. Security footage later confirmed that she had been deliberately attacked.
A Viral Story of Survival
Riona’s heartbreaking ordeal quickly went viral after a TikTok video documenting her story gained millions of views. Despite her trauma, Riona’s gentle spirit never faded.
“She always wags her tail,” McLemore shared. “That’s what makes it even more heartbreaking. She’s just so sweet, and for someone to hurt her like this, it’s unimaginable. She loves everyone.”
Throughout her recovery, Tails of Hope Dog Rescue provided updates, and countless supporters donated money and gifts to help her heal.
Justice for Riona
Authorities arrested 43-year-old Quishon Brown, who now faces multiple charges, including aggravated animal cruelty, setting fire to personal property, and misdemeanor assault. His trial remains ongoing.
A New Beginning
After months of medical care and rehabilitation, Riona’s story has finally taken a joyful turn. Tails of Hope recently announced that Riona is on a ten-hour road trip to meet her new forever family.
“Riona’s journey isn’t ending,” the rescue organization wrote on Facebook. “In fact, it’s just beginning. We’ve all played a part in this miracle, our warrior girl.”
Though Riona’s past is filled with pain, her future is now filled with love, safety, and a home where she will never be hurt again. A true survivor, she is finally getting the happiness she deserves!
