Although Ryan Reynolds is widely regarded as a heartthrob, Sandra Bullock admitted there was “nothing sexy” about filming their nude scene together.
In The Proposal (2009), the pair found themselves completely naked in one of the film’s most hilarious and awkward moments. But according to Bullock, the experience was far more uncomfortable than it was steamy.

Bullock played Margaret Tate, a no-nonsense book publishing executive from Canada who suddenly faces deportation. To secure a U.S. green card, she convinces her assistant, Andrew Paxton (Reynolds), to marry her, on the condition that he gets a well-earned promotion.
The two travel to his hometown in Alaska to stage their engagement and win over his family, but as they fake their romance, real sparks begin to fly.
Before love truly blossoms, however, they endure a series of hilariously awkward encounters, none more memorable than their unexpected naked collision.
In the scene, Margaret steps out of the shower, struggling to find a towel, just as Andrew, fresh from a run, strips down. The two end up tumbling onto each other in a moment of comedic chaos before scrambling to cover up.
During filming, Bullock’s small modesty coverings reportedly became “unstuck,” while Reynolds accidentally exposed himself to the entire set, adding another layer of hilarity to the already awkward moment.
With those behind-the-scenes mishaps in mind, it’s easy to understand why Bullock insisted the scene was anything but sexy.
The Speed star, now 60, reflected on the experience during a 2013 appearance on The Graham Norton Show alongside Samuel L. Jackson and Nick Frost.
“Ah, the naked scene,” she laughed when host Graham Norton brought it up. “There’s nothing funnier than two naked bodies slapping together.”
She added, “There’s nothing sexy about it at all, it’s funny. I don’t do naked for sexy. Naked only works for me in the funny.”
Reynolds’ playful tribute highlighted their enduring friendship and the humor they both bring to their work.
Bullock and Reynolds have spoken fondly about their time filming The Proposal, emphasizing the trust and camaraderie they shared on set.
In a 2021 interview on the About Last Night podcast, Bullock reiterated her stance on avoiding “sexy naked” scenes, explaining, “You will not see me trying to attempt being sexy naked, in real life or on screen. There’s just no point in it.”
She credited Reynolds for making her feel safe and comfortable during filming, saying, “It was for that reason, with a friend that you trusted comedically, and safety-wise I knew I was in the presence of safety.”
Their friendship continues to be a fan favorite, with Reynolds often poking fun at their on-screen history, like his 2023 birthday message to Bullock.
Sharing a clip of their infamous nude scene, the Deadpool & Wolverine star joked, “Happy Birthday to the inimitable and stunning Sandra Bullock! For your birthday this year, I got us both intimacy coordinators. And an HR department. And clothing?”
