Shocking Simulation Reveals the Impact of Vaping on Your Body

It’s no secret that vaping isn’t exactly good for us, but a new simulation has brought to life the terrifying effects of inhaling these chemicals.

While the long-term health consequences of vaping are still largely unknown, according to the NHS, alarming stories about its dangers continue to emerge worldwide. For example, one man was given just a one percent chance of survival after becoming addicted to vaping, while a 17-year-old had to undergo major surgery to remove part of her lung after vaping the equivalent of 400 cigarettes per week.

Although research on vaping is still in its early stages, we do know that it can be highly addictive due to the nicotine content. The NHS states: “Research on vaping-related harm is rapidly developing. Current evidence suggests vapes are less harmful than smoking tobacco products, but they aren’t risk-free. Most vapes contain nicotine, which is highly addictive. They also often contain other ingredients like propylene glycol, glycerine, and flavourings.”

Now, a new YouTube video has revealed exactly what happens when the chemicals from a vape enter the body, and it’s not a pleasant watch. The simulation, created by The Infographics Show, illustrates how these chemicals target the lungs and create a buildup of mucus on the alveoli, the tiny air sacs essential for oxygen exchange.

The video explains that the chemicals have a “paralytic effect” on the lungs and the cilia, the tiny hair-like structures that help clear out debris and pathogens. This damage can take weeks to recover from, and once the cilia are impaired, the body becomes more vulnerable to infections and illnesses.

Experts warn that one of the major concerns with vaping products is their variety of flavors and styles, which often appeal to teenagers and those under 18. A 2023 study found that 4.6 percent of middle school students (ages 11–14) and 10 percent of high school students (ages 14–18) in the U.S. reported using e-cigarettes or vapes, according to the CDC. This equates to nearly 2.13 million students.

While research on the long-term effects of vaping is still developing, some studies are beginning to shed light on the potential harm.

A recent study published in The Journal of Nuclear Medicine compared e-cigarette users with non-smokers to assess lung inflammation. The findings revealed that e-cigarette use was linked to lung inflammation and inflammatory lung disease, which can lead to symptoms such as wheezing, difficulty breathing, chest pain, and tightness, according to Very Well Health.
