Authorities are investigating a heartbreaking murder-suicide involving a family in Nebraska that occurred on the day of their son’s high school graduation. The tragic event has left the community in shock. More details will follow as the investigation continues.
On the morning of May 10, 2025, at around 9:45 AM, the Nebraska State Patrol responded to a call at a home in Johnson Lake, Plum Creek Canyon. Upon arrival, they found all four family members deceased.
The victims were Jeremy Koch, 42, Bailey Koch, 41, and their two sons, Hudson, 18, and Asher, 16. Early reports indicate that Jeremy is believed to have killed his wife and children before taking his own life. All four were found with knife wounds.
Jeremy and Bailey had created a Facebook page called Anchoring Hope to support those struggling with suicidal thoughts. Married for over 25 years, they shared a strong bond. Just one day before the tragedy, Bailey posted on Facebook about Jeremy’s ongoing battle with suicidal thoughts and expressed pride in his efforts to work despite the struggle. She also thanked everyone for their prayers and support.
The Cozad school district released a statement acknowledging the impact of the tragedy on the local community. Cozad Middle School opened at 12:30 PM to support grieving students and staff. The high school graduation ceremony was scheduled to continue at 4:00 PM, with seniors asked to arrive by 2:00 PM. The district promised ongoing support, including counseling services for students and staff when classes resume.
The Dawson County Attorney has ordered autopsies for all four family members, and the investigation is ongoing. The Nebraska State Patrol is leading the investigation, working alongside the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office, Eustis Fire & Rescue, and the Dawson County Attorney.
Officials from all agencies involved extended their deepest condolences to the families and communities affected by this tragedy.
