A mother from Yukon, Oklahoma, is sharing her terrifying experience after her teenage son narrowly escaped death in a freak phone charger accident.
Danielle Davis, a mom-of-six, woke up one night to the sound of her 16-year-old son, Rayce Ogdahl, screaming in agony. When she rushed to his room, she found Rayce in the hallway with severe burns across his neck.
Rayce explained that he had been electrocuted after his necklace came into contact with an exposed prong on his phone charger plug.
The teen was immediately taken to Integris Health Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City, where he was admitted to the ICU. Doctors confirmed that Rayce had suffered enough electrical shock to be fatal, and he was closely monitored for any complications, including damage to his heart.
Rayce’s mom recalled the horrifying moment: “It was a normal night, and we were only asleep for about an hour when we heard a noise and then Rayce’s scream. I thought he was just frustrated with a video game, but then I heard him shout, ‘Mom, I’ve been electrocuted, it was my necklace.’ He had scorch marks around his neck.”
Rayce explained that while lying in bed, he shifted and accidentally knocked his phone charger, which caused his cross necklace to touch the exposed prongs of the plug. When he tried to remove the necklace, it burned through his mattress, leaving a hole.
Rayce suffered second, third, and fourth-degree burns and will bear scars for life. He even got burns on his hands from trying to tear the necklace off. Despite his intense pain and fear, he remained conscious throughout the ordeal and managed to alert his mom.
Now recovering, Rayce’s scars are a constant reminder of how quickly things can go wrong. His family is urging others to be cautious about electrical cords and chargers.
Danielle reflected, “It’s almost his entire neck that’s covered in scars. It’s from his chin to his collarbone. We’re so grateful he’s alive, but the experience has made Rayce much more aware. We want others to learn from this: don’t leave your phone on the bed, and be careful with extension cords.”
The family is thankful Rayce survived the incident, and they hope his story serves as a reminder to always stay vigilant around electrical devices.
