Harry Potter star Tom Felton has ignited a firestorm online with his recent comments about author J.K. Rowling, whose views have sparked widespread debate.
Best known for playing Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter films, Felton, now 37, rose to global fame through the franchise’s massive success. His portrayal of the cunning Slytherin garnered a dedicated fanbase.
Felton recently announced he will reprise his role as Malfoy in the Broadway production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

In a statement, Felton shared: “Stepping back into Draco’s shoes—and that platinum blond hair—feels surreal. I’m thrilled to explore his story further and share it with the incredible Harry Potter fan community.”
He added: “Being part of the Harry Potter films has been one of the greatest privileges of my life. Joining Cursed Child this fall is a full-circle moment, as I’ll be the same age as Draco in the play.”
While many fans celebrated the return of an original cast member, a recent interview at the 2025 Tony Awards has sparked significant backlash.

Social media has been abuzz with reactions to Felton’s comments. One user wrote: “Play the villain, stay the villain.”
Another commented: “This is so disappointing. I was a huge Tom Felton fan.”

Rowling has been vocal on social media, particularly about transgender issues and her definition of womanhood. Some label her views as transphobic.
In 2020, Rowling retweeted an article discussing “people who menstruate,” questioning why it avoided the term “women.” She wrote on X: “‘People who menstruate.’ I’m sure there used to be a word for those people. Wumben? Wimpund? Woomud?”
As Rowling has continued to share her opinions, several Harry Potter actors, including Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint, have publicly distanced themselves from her stance.

I have not seen anything bring the world together more than Potter. She’s responsible for that, so I’m incredibly grateful.”
