Born 14 weeks premature and weighing just 1 pound, Tru was fighting for her life from the very beginning.
A Mother’s First Embrace
It took eleven days before Tru’s mother was finally able to hold her daughter for the first time, an unforgettable moment filled with both joy and uncertainty.
A Long Road to Recovery
With the dedicated care of the medical team at Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster, Canada, Tru began her long and difficult battle for survival.
Her journey was far from easy. After falling ill, she spent several weeks in an incubator, relying on machines to keep her alive.
Fifty-four days after her birth, her father finally got to hold her, a moment he cherished deeply.
A Fighter’s Progress
Despite facing overwhelming odds, Tru began making steady progress.
On day 71, she moved from the incubator to a crib, a significant milestone in her journey.
By day 90, she was able to start using low-flow oxygen, marking the beginning of her transition toward greater independence.
Finally Going Home
After four long months, Tru was discharged from the hospital, a moment her family had been waiting for.
Her time in the NICU was marked by incredible challenges, including:
- Two bouts of necrotizing enterocolitis
- Two blood clots
- Chronic lung disease
- Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA)
- Retinopathy
- Two blood infections, including sepsis
- A congenital heart condition
- Seven blood transfusions
Despite these struggles, Tru’s resilience never wavered.
