In 1983, when 24-year-old Patricia Clarke became pregnant, she had more than just a feeling that her baby would be on the larger side. Having already given birth to a big baby before, she knew her family had a history of large newborns. However, nothing could have prepared her for the extraordinary size of the child she was carrying.
Patricia gave birth to Kevin Robert Clarke, a baby who weighed over 16 pounds, a truly remarkable size. At the time, Kevin was the largest baby ever born at Community Memorial Hospital and possibly in all of New Jersey.
While Kevin couldn’t fit into a standard crib and his baby clothes were far too small, his parents were overjoyed to find that he was perfectly healthy. His birth became a memorable story, capturing the attention of many and making headlines across the region.
As one might expect, Kevin’s size quickly became the center of attention. His story gained national fame, landing him features on popular shows like “Saturday Night Live” and “Good Morning America”.
But Kevin’s time in the spotlight didn’t end there. By the age of 12, he was already 5 feet 7 inches tall, as reported by the *New York Post*. By the time he entered junior high, he had shot up to an impressive 6 feet 5 inches and he wasn’t done growing yet.
“There isn’t a day that goes by when someone doesn’t ask me how tall I am,” Kevin shared with the Post.
“I like to joke that I’m 5-foot-21. When people ask if I play basketball, I ask them if they play miniature golf.”
Today, Kevin is 40 years old. A former soldier, he lives with his 6 foot tall wife and their Great Dane, enjoying a life that continues to stand out, just as he always has.
Being taller than everyone else is something Kevin has grown accustomed to over the years.
