A mysterious medieval text hidden deep in the Vatican archives has resurfaced, claiming to reveal the exact year the world will face its final reckoning.
The “Prophecy of the Popes,” a document attributed to 12th-century Irish bishop Saint Malachy, supposedly outlines a list of 112 popes, ending with Pope Francis. But what has truly alarmed believers is that the prophecy suggests the end of days is just two years away, in 2027, according to Catholic.com.
A Chilling PredictionFirst discovered in 1590, the prophecy consists of 112 cryptic Latin phrases, each describing a future pope. The final passage warns:
“In the final persecution of the Holy Roman Church, there will reign Peter the Roman, who will feed his flock amid many tribulations, after which the seven-hilled city will be destroyed, and the dreadful Judge will judge the people. The End.”
This has led some to believe that after Pope Francis, now 88 and struggling with serious health issues, steps down or passes away, the next pope (potentially named Peter) will oversee the Church’s final days.
Historical Accuracy or Hoax?
While some see eerie accuracy in the prophecy, such as Pope John Paul II being linked to a solar eclipse and Pope Benedict XVI’s ties to the Olivetans many scholars dismiss the text as a 16th-century forgery written for political gain.
The Catholic Church itself does not recognize the prophecy, stating that while some predictions seem accurate, many more have been wildly off the mark.
