A Netflix Horror Movie Is So Disturbing It’s Making Viewers Pass Out
Stephen King is no stranger to terror. From The Shining to Carrie, the legendary author has built a reputation on stories that crawl under your skin, and stay there. But one of his lesser-known adaptations is now going viral for all the right (and wrong) reasons.
Gerald’s Game, a 2017 psychological horror film directed by Mike Flanagan, has become the talk of the internet—mostly because it’s leaving viewers physically shaken. Some are even claiming it made them pass out.
“I totally thought that one scene was gonna make me pass out lmao,” one viewer wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
“Why did I watch that before bed?” another regretted.
A third added: “Literally the most terrifying and devastating movie I’ve ever seen.”
What’s Gerald’s Game About?
The story follows a married couple, Jessie and Gerald (played by Carla Gugino and Bruce Greenwood), who retreat to an isolated lake house for a romantic getaway. But things go horribly wrong when Gerald dies of a heart attack, leaving Jessie handcuffed to the bed, alone and trapped.
What follows is a tense, psychologically claustrophobic descent into trauma, hallucinations, and survival. And yes, there’s one infamous scene that even horror veterans find hard to stomach.
“My roommate and I both started screaming and covering our eyes.”
“So freaking brutal, and that stuff doesn’t normally bother me as much.”
Without spoiling too much, let’s just say it involves Jessie trying to escape, and the result is one of the most grotesque scenes in modern horror.
A “Once Unfilmable” Story
Stephen King himself praised the adaptation, telling Vulture:
“The script broke the book open to get to the interior part of the story in a way that I thought was terrific.”
That’s high praise, especially considering King has been openly critical of some adaptations of his work.
Gerald’s Game holds a 91% score on Rotten Tomatoes and has earned rave reviews for Gugino’s haunting performance and Flanagan’s unflinching direction.
So, if you think you can handle it, Gerald’s Game is streaming on Netflix now. But be warned: this one is not for the faint of heart.
