Jessie J is opening up about a recent health battle. The 37-year-old singer revealed in an emotional Instagram video on June 3 that she has been diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer.
“I was diagnosed with early breast cancer. I’m highlighting the word early,” she told fans. “Cancer sucks in any form, but I’m holding onto the word early.” Jessie explained that she had been undergoing tests for some time, keeping it private while continuing to work and release music, including her track No Secrets, which dropped on April 25.
“I just wanted to be open and share it,” she continued. “One, because selfishly, I don’t talk about it enough. I’m not really processing it because I’m working so hard. But I also know how much sharing in the past has helped me, with people giving me their love and support, and also sharing their own stories. I’m an open book.”
In the caption, Jessie stayed true to her signature blend of vulnerability and humor:
“No (more) Secrets… and is it too soon to do a remix called ‘Living My Breast Life’? ”
She added, “These last two months have been so amazing, and having this going on in the background has given me the most incredible perspective. BUT… your girl needs a hug.”
She also couldn’t resist a light joke to end the post: “Also not getting massive tits. Or am I? No no… I must stop joking.”
Jessie is mom to her 2-year-old son, Sky, whom she shares with boyfriend Chanan Colman. She previously experienced a devastating miscarriage in 2021, which she’s spoken about openly, including on a 2022 episode of The Diary of a CEO podcast. “I posted it [on Instagram] because I didn’t have anyone there to break on,” she shared at the time. “I didn’t have anyone to just fall apart on, and that’s what I needed.”
In 2024, Jessie also revealed she had been diagnosed with ADHD and OCD, saying those discoveries gave her clarity as a new mom. “It made it feel less heavy and scary,” she wrote in a July post, noting that becoming a parent had made those traits more visible. “But also in moments, has made me feel like I can’t talk about it. F*** that. Here I am talking about it. Embracing it.”
Despite her ongoing challenges, Jessie continues to meet each moment with openness, honesty, and a sharp sense of humor. And now, as she faces breast cancer, she’s choosing connection over silence, with a message that’s equal parts hopeful and human.
