Chris Martin and Dakota Johnson have reportedly ended their relationship and called off their engagement after almost eight years together.
Despite being spotted in Malibu just last month, sources told People that the longtime couple has quietly gone their separate ways.
Representatives for Martin, 48, and Johnson, 35, have not yet commented on the split.
Rumors about trouble in their relationship had been circulating for months. While Johnson supported Martin during Coldplay’s 2024 tour, she was seen without her engagement ring in Los Angeles, sparking speculation. At the time, her rep denied any issues, telling Us Weekly in August 2024, “The reports are not true. They are happily together.”
Earlier this year, the pair appeared to be going strong, traveling to India together where they were seen holding hands and participating in a religious ceremony at Mumbai’s Babulnath Temple.
Martin and Johnson began dating in late 2017, a year after Martin finalized his divorce from Gwyneth Paltrow. The exes share two children: Apple, 21, and Moses, 19.
The notoriously private couple kept most of their relationship out of the spotlight, though they did briefly split in 2019. They reconciled a month later, reportedly with some encouragement from Paltrow.
“Gwyneth is the one who pushed them to do it,” a source told Us Weekly at the time.
Paltrow later confirmed her support for Johnson, telling Harper’s Bazaar in 2020, “I love her. I can see how it would seem weird because it’s sort of unconventional. But… I just adore her.”
Martin also maintained a close and harmonious relationship between his ex-wife and Johnson. When news of his and Johnson’s engagement broke in March 2024, a source noted how much it meant to him that Johnson fit so naturally into his family’s life.
“They absolutely plan on having Apple and Moses there, and they wouldn’t feel complete without inviting Gwyneth too,” the insider said at the time, adding that Johnson and Paltrow had become “very close” over the years and now consider each other family.
Their split marks the end of a quietly enduring relationship that, while largely kept out of the public eye, was built on mutual respect and a uniquely blended family dynamic.
