When it comes to raising kids, most parents aim to teach empathy, acceptance, and open-mindedness. Some do it through conversations. Others, like Mark Bryan, lead by example, in heels.
Mark Bryan is a straight father of three, a full-time engineer, and a man who proudly rocks skirts and stilettos. Why? To show his children, and the world, that clothing has no gender.
“Clothes and shoes do not dictate a person’s sexuality or gender,” he captions each of his outfit posts on Instagram.
With nearly 600,000 followers, Bryan’s fashion-forward mission has struck a chord. His posts regularly go viral, prompting messages of support and admiration:
“He looks amazing! And the confidence? Inspiring.”
“I don’t know how he walks in heels that high, but wow, those calves!”
“We need more people like him, confident, bold, and unbothered.”
Bryan says the attention wasn’t something he ever expected. In an interview with PurpleHaze, he explained that his Instagram presence has become a lifeline for many:
“What I was doing ended up helping so many people who wanted to wear non-gender conforming clothing but were afraid of being judged. I get over 100 messages a day, people thanking me for the courage to be themselves.”
His goal? To de-sexualize clothing and normalize freedom of expression, regardless of gender identity.
Speaking to Harper’s Bazaar Australia, Bryan opened up about his unexpected shift into the influencer space:
“If I have the opportunity, why not make some money while having fun? A year ago, I would’ve laughed at the idea.”
But his mission runs deeper than fashion:
“When someone sees me walking down the street, I want the reaction to be, ‘That’s Mark in a cool outfit,’ not ‘That’s a man in women’s shoes.’ When we stop attaching gender to clothes, that’s when we’ve really progressed.”
In an interview with Bored Panda, Bryan shared his admiration for women who wear skirts and heels:
“There’s a power in how they carry themselves. I’ve always respected that. Personally, I prefer skirts to dresses, dresses don’t let me mix masculine and feminine elements the way I like. For me, it’s about balance, expression, and showing that clothes don’t define who you are.”
His style is bold, but his message is simple: fashion is for everyone.
