During a DOGE hearing, one Democratic representative unleashed a fiery rant against Elon Musk, calling him out for his controversial role as the head of the newly established Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Musk, the world’s richest man, was tasked with slashing federal spending, and under his leadership, DOGE reportedly saved around $115 billion—a figure experts have heavily disputed. These cuts have significantly impacted key government sectors like Education, Labor, and Health.
A major focus of Musk’s reforms has been job cuts, with a leaked email threatening the jobs of 100,000 civil servants. Although some firings were later reversed due to “accidental” terminations, the moves have stirred backlash.
One of DOGE’s most criticized actions occurred in its early weeks, when employees gained access to sensitive Social Security and Treasury records. This prompted Democratic representatives to call for a hearing, where Rep. John Larson (D-CT) delivered a scathing critique of Musk and the Department.
Larson argued that Chairman Jason Smith had failed to properly oversee DOGE’s access to Social Security records and questioned the independence of the committee. He blasted Musk for not attending the hearing, saying, “If he’s so great, if these plans and all the fraud and abuse that he’s found are so eminent, why isn’t he here explaining it? You know why, because he’s out to privatize Social Security.”

This remark came after Chairman Smith accused Democrats of obstructing efforts to expose government waste. Larson dismissed these accusations as “blathering.”
Larson’s fiery words resonated with many on social media, with some agreeing with his criticism of Musk’s handling of government affairs. One social media user even remarked that Musk is known for spreading misinformation, citing his own AI, Grok, which has publicly refuted some of Musk’s claims.
