While former President Trump offered his congratulations, many of his supporters were far less welcoming. MAGA voices online slammed the new pope as a “woke globalist,” pointing to his support for immigrants and past criticisms of Trump.
Despite the backlash, Pope Leo XIV opened his papacy with a powerful message of peace, inclusion, and unity on a global scale.
