An actor from the Harry Potter franchise has sadly passed away.
Tributes have been pouring in on social media from fans remembering him fondly. One wrote, “Absolutely heartbreaking, RIP. Sleep well.” Another commented, “What a legend! I used to love seeing him on screen! RIP.” A third added, “So sorry for your loss, sending love, hugs, and prayers during this difficult time.”
Tony Adkins, better known as ‘Big Tony,’ was famously Simon Cowell’s bodyguard during his years on The X Factor. He was 64.
Adkins became a memorable figure on the show, often stepping in to remove contestants who refused to leave or became confrontational with the judges. His appearances are some of the most iconic moments in the show’s history. He worked alongside Simon Cowell for eight years until 2009.
After his time on The X Factor, Adkins spoke highly of Cowell. In an interview with the Mirror, he described Simon as “laid-back and very nice” and recalled Cowell’s generosity, mentioning the holiday bonuses he received, including one with £700 inside.
Adkins also shared some lighthearted memories, like Cowell owning around 20 identical T-shirts and always doing his hair meticulously.
Beyond his role on The X Factor, Tony Adkins had a part in the Harry Potter series, appearing as a giant in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2.
Tragically, the news of his death was confirmed by his cousin on social media, who wrote: “It is with great sadness that my family announces that my cousin Big Tony, Simon Cowell’s ex-bodyguard, passed away on Easter Sunday while on a rugby tour. He was a lovable rogue and will be deeply missed. RIP Big T.”
His rugby club, Hammersmith and Fulham RFC, where he played for 40 years, also paid tribute: “With immense sadness, we say goodbye to Tony Adkins, a true gentleman and great Hammer, who passed away on Easter Sunday while on tour with the club in Poland.”
The club’s post added, “Tony found a unique place both on the rugby field and later under the spotlight, working as Simon Cowell’s trusted bodyguard and making a memorable appearance in the Harry Potter films, a fitting legacy.”
